Dear aLife.,

I thought that I share with you some important thought as we reflect our performances in 2008. If I may say, it’s very obvious how our awesome GOD has blessed aLife tremendously! My question now is this, “What have we done in 2008, that we can do better this year?”

Many had come to my mind, but ONE stands out … let me share it to you:

I believe,, because we have ‘planted’ so much!!! My point is this., the amount of our harvest is ‘dependent’ on the amount of the seeds we planted! In other words: we should not judge our performance by the “harvest” we reap, BUT by the “seeds” we plant!

We need to continue to PLANT seeds of prayers, seeds of hope, seeds of support, seeds of missions, seeds of maturing, seeds of serving, seeds of helping, seeds of loving, seeds of teaching, seeds of sharing, seeds of inviting, seeds of caring, seeds of follow-up, seeds of faith, seeds of generosity, seeds of kindness, seeds of courage, seeds of righteousness, seeds of cup-of-thoughts, … there’s so much wonderful seeds out there!

IMPORTANT LESSON: As we can see, the key to harvest is in the seeds… so, let us plant more seeds this year!!!

We know already the parable of the sower (Matthew 13) and we learned that there are many kinds of soil., i.e. along the path, rocky, thorny, and healthy. The lesson here is, whether we like or not, some of these seeds will fall on these types of soil. BUT the good news is that we are NOT limited by the kinds of soil,, but by the available sowers! We need to recruit and develop more “missional” sowers !!!

By His grace., please join me, support me, and help me … plant more seeds! Thank you …

In prayers,

Happy New Year!

Dear All.,

JOYOUS New Year to everyone! I guess, it’s a choice for many … to be
happy or not to be happy this new year!? Or, I should say that many
should be happy because they have made it through again another year!
Hmm., don’t you think it would be better if people will rather learn
from each passing year?

The Bible says, “Be very careful, then, how you live — not as unwise
but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days
are evil.” –Ephesians 5:15-16

Let’s face it, many are wishing to have a lot of money to be
successful. For sure we all know the value of having plenty of money!
BUT we all have heard time and time again about many people who
started with nothing and yet went on to make great successes! How?

Well, I believe there are actually many things that are more valuable
than money, allow me to share some…

First is “time.” I believe time is more valuable than money. Money
can be earned but not time. You can only have 24 hours each day, no
more! The time you set aside not to be wasted, not to be given away.
How valuable is time? Here’s what I know: time wasted can be
devastation, while, time wisely invested can perform miracles!

Second is “determination.” I can say that I am blessed with a
wonderful mother! I was not born with a ’silver spoon’ (but with a
‘plastic spoon!’). Growing up, I always heard this important lesson
from her, she said, “My kids are hungry, I got to make this work. If
this doesn’t work, what will I do?” You work hard at whatever you can
possibly get when you get hungry. Desperation can be a powerful ally…
especially when you say – I must!

Third is “courage.” It is more valuable than money too! Another
important lesson I learned from my mother is this, she said, “If it
works once, it will work again.” She started a business with no money
but with a lot of courage.., I’m telling you, she made it! Through her
courage, all of us five children finished our education. Not only
that, she used the same “courage” that brought her and my father here
in America! Here’s what I believe — we are capable of incredible
things no matter what.

Fourth is “faith.” My mother is a strong believer. She said, “Wow!
If I can sell 5, I can sell 50. If I can sell 50, I can sell 150.” Her
self-esteem started to soar. I saw my mother astonished by her own
dreams of the future… and she’s right! One very important lesson I
learned: you become what you believe!

Lastly, “heart.” Do you know your purpose in life? Money can’t buy a
determined heart. A million dollars without a lively heart, you have
no life. You are ineffective if you have unrighteous heart. But a
passionate heart is the unseen power that moves people, moves people
to make decisions, moves people to act, moves people to respond!

Let me summarize it all – time, determination, courage, faith, and
heart., they all come from one great source, our GOD! He came so that
we can have this life to the fullest! He created us to love us. WE
are the main object of His love! BUT not until you realize this
important TRUTH and until you learn to allow Him in your life .. you
may just end up with the same old year…

“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my
days are numbered — how fleeting my life is.” –Psalm 39:4

What a Christmas party!

Dear aLife family.,

By GOD’s grace, we were given again such an awesome, wonderful and
joyful CHRISTmas party last Sunday night!! All for His glory!!!
Another important legacy that we can all be thankful for! My sincere
appreciation for all the love, help, support and dedication!!!

Once again, our Roseville team have demonstrated their unique ability
to plan, prepare, host and deliver a “grandeur” party! You guys have
always exceeded everyone’s expectations! All the hard work,
preparation and patience will never be missed! Praise the LORD!

Just for a simple thought: whether it is a Christmas party, a
birthday party, a festivity or any celebration., for me, I look at it
as a bunch of beautiful flowers! As a group, they reflect joyful
moments, the value of life, the fragrance of goodness, the selfless
kindness, and a sense of showing the best of our lives!

Yet flowers are varied and yet every one of them is beautiful … and
a bunch of them grab our attention!

I would like to sincerely appreciate all the BAS groups for all their
wonderful presentations! Just like a bunch of flowers, it all
delivered the unfolding purpose of that blessed evening…

The first group: sparked the audience with the excitement and joy of Christmas!
The second group: dazzled and awed the audience with the wonder of Christmas!
The third group: touched and inspired everyone with the true meaning
of Christmas (i.e., we are the reason for His coming)!

If everyone can just look at the BIG picture objectively (by putting
aside personal preferences), one will see that it was not accident
that the sequence of the presentations came as ONE big message of
CHRISTmas! The first was the “renewing” of joy for the coming
Immanuel; the second was the “rejoicing” at the Savior’s birth; and
the third was the “receiving” of Christ as our LORD! Three important
“Rs” – renewing, rejoicing, receiving!!! Sounds like the events in
Luke 2:8-20. (Hmm., can be a great sermon for next year!!!)

No wonder, all the people were blessed by the total impact of the
presentations (in fact, a lot of people were in tears!). Wow, the
Holy Spirit moved so strong that night too!

HOWEVER, from time to time, we need to remind ourselves that what we
are doing is all for the glory of GOD! We allowed and injected the
competitive spirit among ourselves for fun, enjoyment, and at the same
time, motivate everyone to strive for better presentation to give
glory to GOD (and not men!). Therefore, let us GUARD our hearts
against any “spirit of obsession”… but rather overcome it
continually with the right “spirit of passion” unto the LORD!

Here’s the BOTTOM LINE: on a “higher” sense, we know that there are NO
losers NOR winners., remember, it’s not about us, it is ALL for HIM.
… And if you missed this important purpose, then you maybe missing
the “beauty” of the flowers, instead, you maybe distracted by its
“thorns”!

Psalm 25:9 “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.”

So, merry CHRISTmas and a joyful new year!!! See you at the top! GOD bless…

Thanks

Dear All.,

Sorry, I’ve been quiet lately with my ‘cup-of-thoughts’… so much
things going on.  But GOD is good always!  Someone said, that if we
are to summarize the theme of the books of Psalms it will be this:
“Life is tough, but GOD is good!”  The only problem with that is a lot
of people are making it the other way around:  “Life is good, but GOD
is tough!?”  (I don’t think so!!!)

I pray that this CHRISTmas will be a wonderful blessing for everyone.
Not because of what we don’t have but because of WHOM we belong to!
We know that a lot of people are uptight right now due to all the
looming news of recession… BUT I believe the key is to be THANKFUL
this coming CHRISTmas.  The truth is, you will always find something
to be thankful for. There is power in gratitude!  That looming
darkness of recession may come, but the good news is this– it is in
the darkest when a light shines the brightest!  The Bible says, “Jesus
is the Light of the world
!”  Watch out, He will shine even more!!!

There was this story of a famous English Bible scholar named Matthew
Henry
who was once attacked by thieves and robbed of his wallet.
Knowing the Word of GOD “to be joyful always and continually give
thanks,” He wrote these words in his diary: “Let me be thankful:
First, I was never robbed before. Second, although they took my
wallet, they didn’t take my life. Third, although my wallet is gone,
inside was not much. Fourth, let me be thankful because it was I who
was robbed.. and not I who did the robbing!”

You see, being thankful enables us to overcome our problems instead of
being overcome by them…

So, let us all step into the coming new year filled with GOD’s
presence and mercies.. and let’s call it a year of His presence! When
JESUS in us and when HE’s the Captain of our lives, there’s nothing to
be feared! Even if we are in the midst of a storm we will not worry, we
know the GOD who holds the universe is the one who holds us!!!  Jesus
Christ our LORD
said that He will never leave us nor forsake us. By
the way, He is the ‘Promise Keeper!’

Mark 4:39 ‘He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet!
Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm..’

When we are faced with storms, all we need to do is to call out to
Him. When He’s with us the ’storms’ are CONTROLLED, the LAWS OF NATURE
are ALTERED and our fears and doubts will be GONE. In other words, the
MORE that we need to PRAISE HIM in the storms!!!

Remember, FAITH is not only the ability to believe long and far into
the misty future, I believe it is simply taking GOD at His Word …
His promises … and His limitless love …!

So, merry CHRISTmas and a joyful new year to everyone!  GOD bless !!!

Please allow us to humbly carol you with our ’shortened’ CHRISTmas
concert held last weekend (it’s only about 7 minutes, just click on

Dear aLife team.,

HEE HAH!!!  Praise the LORD!!!

Just wanted to share to everyone some pics taken during our first
choral competition held at SeaFood City (Sacramento) last night!

Christmas Carol 1

We heard from some of the judges that we’re not only very good but it
was very touching too!  In fact, they have already informed us that we
can sing again during the Philippine Independence Day coming June next
year!!!  GOD is awesome, He is opening door to us … so so exciting
for next year!!!,, remember … “Now to Him who is able to do
exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to
the power that works in us!” – Ephesians 3:20

Christmas Carol 2

Again, my heartful thanks to our choir team and of course to those who
prayed and came to support!  I felt the tremendous power and touch of
GOD … He’s expanding His wings in that area… am so glad that He
will use us too!!!

Christmas Carol 3

Let us all step into a new day filled with GOD’s presence and mercies
and call it a day in His presence. When Jesus in us and when He’s the
head of our families, there’s nothing to fear! Even if we are in the
midst of a storm we will not worry, we know the GOD who holds the
universe is the one who holds us. Jesus Christ our Lord said that He
will never leave us or forsake us. He is the ‘Promise Keeper!’

Mark 4:39 ‘He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet!
Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm..’

Christmas Carol 4

When we are faced with storms, all we need to do is cry out to Him.
When He’s with us
the STORMS are CONTROLLED, the LAWS OF NATURE are ALTERED and our
Fears, doubts are DELETED. In other words, that MORE that we need to
PRAISE HIM in the storms!!

By the way, our CHRISTmas “Joy Joy Joy” concert is now also in our
website that you may wish to share with others (thanks to Ben!):

Christmas Concert!

Dear aLife team.,

PRAISE the LORD!!!  My hat is off to all of you that helped and
supported.. especially those who tirelessly involved themselves in the
hard work preparation, practices and precious hours spent in making
our concert a wonderful experience of praises to HIM!

By His grace, He exceeded again everyone’s expectation!  He even broke
again the number of attendance!  (Next time, we need to plan for an
“overflow” parking!  Unfortunately, some people left again when they
can’t find a parking spot!)

It was really a “JOY JOY JOY” celebration!  We received so much
wonderful feedback and very encouraging comments… it was really a
heartfelt celebration of GOD’s Love for us,, as His glorious presence
was with us!!!  Furthermore, it was a powerful evangelistic
opportunity too for us… (I should have called an “altar call”
..hmmm!)

But of course, we can continue again to raise the bar for next year.
Remember, we can never be perfect,, but we can continue to strive for
excellence .. all for His glory!

There is so much to be thankful for this CHRISTmas and for the coming
New Year!  We can be thankful that even if we loose or don’t have the
things we desire, it means that there is always to be to look forward
to!  We can be thankful for the difficult times, because during those
times we grow. We can be thankful for our limitations, because they
give us opportunities for improvements. We can be thankful when we
don’t know yet something, it gives us the opportunity to learn. We can
be thankful for the new challenges, because it will continue to build
our strength and character. We can be thankful for our mistakes,
because they will teach us valuable lessons. We can be thankful when
we become tired and weary, because it means we can make a difference
again.

Remember, “aLife” is a life rich of forgiveness, freedom and
fulfillment in CHRIST!  It comes to those who are thankful for the
victories and setbacks too. Gratitude can turn a negative into a
positive. Surely, we can always find a way to be thankful even in our
troubles, because if we do, they can become our blessings!

So, Merry CHRISTmas and a joyful New Year …!  See you at the top,
all for His Glory,, GOD bless!!!

Thanks

Better Life

Dear All,

A young guy came to me and said, “I wanted to have a better life.., but I don’t know how?” Wow, what a great start!

No doubt about it, I think everyone wanted to have a better life, isn’t it?  However, I think the hardest part is how or where
to start. Well, my answer is simple:  I believe that those who wanted to have a better life must first seek to become a
better person…

Let us start on how does a child speak? A child speaks to ask for things. A child speaks about wanting and wishing. A
child says, “Give me!” A child says, “I want!”  And a child says, “I need.”  In short, a child only talks about “himself or
herself!”  (Sounds familiar?) Now, let’s see how a child thinks?  Everyone will agree that a child thinks in small terms. A
child thinks of a world roughly his size, a size he can comprehend and manage. A child thinks about small spaces and
about short spans of time. A child has a short attention span and a very short patience too.  The concept of time and
waiting depends on his size. In short, a child thinks “small and short!”  (Sounds familiar?)  Meantime, how does a child
understands or makes reason?  Perhaps something like this: “Oops, I’ve done something I was not supposed to do –
but it’s not my fault! I got away with it, and everything is cool! As long as I’m fine, I don’t care!” Wow!  In short, a child’s
understanding is, “It’s always others’ fault!”  (Sounds familiar?)

Hmm, with the above, I believe the first step in becoming a better person is to “grow-up!”

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away
childish things.”  - 1 Corinthians 13:11

Without a doubt, most of the problems in the world today are due to “immaturity.”  We get ourselves into all kinds of
problems and troubles due to five immature means:  (1) thinking immature thoughts; (2) saying immature things; (3)
making immature judgments; (4) choosing immature decisions; (5) and acting in immature ways!  It’s very important that
we must grow-up…

There was this story of a teenager and on his sixteenth birthday he approached his father and said, “Dad, I’m sixteen
now. When I get my license, can I drive the family car?” His dad looked at him and said, “Son, driving the car takes
maturity, and first, you must prove that you are responsible enough. And one way you must do that is to bring up your
grades. They are not acceptable. Second, you must read the Bible every day. And finally, you must get that hair cut; it
looks outrageous.” The son began the task of fulfilling his father’s requirements, except for the last knowing that cutting
his hair is the last thing he would do. When his grades came out, he went to his dad with a big smile. “Look, Dad, all A’s
and B’s on my report card. Now can I drive the family car?” “Very good, son. You are one-third of the way there, but have
you been reading the Bible?” the father replied. “Yes, Dad, every day,” said the son. “Very good son. You are two-thirds of
the way there. Now when are you going to get that hair cut?” The son, thinking that he could out smart the father,
responded, “Well, I don’t see why I should get my hair cut to drive the car. Jesus had long hair, didn’t he?” The father
looked at his boy and said, “That is very true son, but remember Jesus just walked everywhere he went.. He didn’t need a
car!”

So, what is maturity?  Maturity is not age – it has nothing to do with how long you’ve lived. You can be fifty years and yet not
be mature.  I’ve seen some 60 and 70 year old kids (if you know what I mean!).  Maturity is not appearance – some people
just look mature. Maturity has nothing to do with achievement – what you accomplished.  You can accomplish a lot and
still be very immature. Maturity has nothing to do with academics – how many degrees you’ve gotten or how much
education you’ve gotten and still act immature.  (When I graduated from high school I thought I knew it all. Then I went to
college – the more I don’t know!)

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”- Philippians 2:5

GOD says maturity is attitude.  Attitude is what makes the difference! “Recognition” is what people say about you, but your
“character” is what GOD says about you.  Bottom line, it’s your attitude that determines whether you’re mature or not!

We know that life means having problems, and part of life means solving problems and learning to face them with the
right attitude.  What is your natural attitude or your natural reaction when things don’t go your way?  Are you negative or are
you positive?  Are you part of the solution or are you part of the problem? Are you basically a supportive person or are you
a skeptical person?  Is your life filled with gratitude or grumbling?  Are you hopeful or are you bitter?

D. L. Moody said, “Character is what you are in the dark.”  I say, “Maturity is what you are when no one is looking!”

Here’s an ancient story with a beautiful lesson. Once there was an emperor in the Far East who was growing old and
knew it was coming time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or one of his own children,
he decided to do something different. He called all the young people in the kingdom. He said, “It has come time for me to
step down and to choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you.” The kids were shocked! But the
emperor continued. “I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One seed. It is a very special seed. I want you to go
home, plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I
will then judge the plants that you bring to me, and the one I choose will be the next emperor of the kingdom!” There was
one boy named Ling who was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told
his mother the whole story. She helped him get a pot and some planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it
carefully. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other youths
began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Ling kept going home and checking his
seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by. Still nothing! By now others were talking about
their plants but Ling didn’t have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by, still nothing in Ling’s pot. He just
knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn’t say anything to his
friends. He just kept waiting for his seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their
plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But she encouraged
him to go, and to take his pot, and to be honest about what happened. Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he trusted his
mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown
by all the other youths. They were beautiful, in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the
other kids laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, “Hey, nice try.” When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the
room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. “Wow, what great plants, trees and flowers you
have grown,” said the emperor. “Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!” All of a sudden, the emperor
spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified.
“The emperor knows I’m a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!” When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his
name. “My name is Ling,” he replied. All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to
quiet down. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, “Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!” Ling
couldn’t believe it. Ling couldn’t even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor? Then the emperor said, “One
year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But
I gave you all boiled seeds which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers.
When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one
with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the only one mature enough to be the
new emperor!” (Adopted from “In The Garden with Jesus” by Tiziana Ruff.)

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be
dishonest with much.” – Luke 16:10

It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks.  What matters is what GOD thinks of you! At the end of each the day, you
should be able to rewind and review your performance, and the result should either applaud you or teach you!

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”
– 2 Peter 3:18

In His grace,
